In March, a Portland man was accused of 11 counts of sexual assault. Benjamin Collura was recently sentenced to two years in prison when he was found guilty of sexually assaulting at least 8 women during massages.
During his trial, Collura pleaded guilty to one count of 2nd-degree sexual abuse and 3 counts of 3rd-degree sexual abuse and agreed to not practice massage therapy until 2022 at the earliest. He is also going to have to register as a sex offender.
The trial began in February of 2016 when police followed a tip that Collura had been involved in sexual abuse of one of his massage clients at a spa in Southwest Portland.
A 31-year-old woman reported that Collura had sexually abused her during a massage at the River’s Edge Hotel & Spa. When police investigated further, they found that Collura was previously employed at two different Massage Envy locations throughout 2010 and 2013, one in the Lloyd District in Northeast Portland and one in John’s Landing in Southwest Portland.
Detectives from the Portland Police Bureau Sex Crimes Unit arrested Collura on March 9, 2016. Another layer to Collura’s agreement is that he will never enter River’s Edge Hotel & Spa or any Massage Envy location.
Though we wish massage therapists would never commit such acts, PA Crime Victims Legal Advocates is happy to see that justice was served. If the victims had never come forward, this man would still be at large.
