With over 548,000 Philly area residents expected to travel during the Independence Day holiday period, PennDOT and law enforcement agencies across the state are partnering to crack down on impaired drivers.
This initiative is part of a national campaign effort called “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” which runs through July 7th.
Not only will local residents see more roadway enforcement, but officers will take to the waterways to monitor cases of boating under the influence.
PennDOT data from last year reveals that 355 alcohol-related crashes occurred from Friday, June 29, to Sunday, July 8, resulting in 20 fatalities.
It’s no surprise that a majority of traffic-related deaths can be attributed to drunk drivers.
With extra efforts being made to keep drunk driver son the road, be sure to make smart choices. Call a cab or local safe ride service before getting yourself into a life changing accident. Even if you aren’t drinking, pay attention to drivers who exhibit reckless driving behaviors.
If you do find yourself in a holiday collision, be prepared with an accident checklist to get your car towed and fixed without the hassle. It’s always a good idea to have the phone number of your favorite Delaware County auto body shop handy.
